Chruch of St. Stephan and Minster in Constance

Konstanz is cult. Its unique location on Lake Constance, an extensive old town with winding streets and a magnificent minster, international flair and – last but not least – the island of Mainau which also belongs to Konstanz make this city an attractive holiday destination. From 2014 to 2018, Konstanz is celebrating the “600th anniversary of the Konstanz Council” under the banner “Europe is our guest”.

Iconic beauty of Constance

Konstanz is the largest city on Lake Constance and the only German municipality on the southern shore of the lake. The well-maintained historical centre borders Switzerland, Lake Constance and Lake Rhine which escapes the Obersee as a broad stretch of water flowing north-west. On clear days, the view from Constance harbour stretches over the bobbing sailing vessels and the broad waters of the deep-blue lake to the imposing peaks of the Alpine foothills.

Konstanz is a shopping city

Numerous shops encourage visitors to linger and dawdle while street cafés serve up enticing Mediterranean dishes.

Konstanz is an ideal starting point

The city on Lake Constance is an ideal starting point for boat and sailing excursions.

A regular car and passenger ferry operates between Konstanz and the romantic wine town of Meersburg on the northern shore of the lake. With the catamarans “Fridolin”, “Ferdinand” and “Constanze”, visitors can reach the Zeppelin city of Friedrichshafen in only 45 minutes. Excursion boats link Konstanz to almost every municipality on the lake. It is possible to visit the nearby flower island Mainau by boat, on foot or by bike – the best-known excursion destination on Lake Constance which belongs to the city of Konstanz. Thanks to the mild lake climate, palm trees, sequoia, lemon trees and orange trees all thrive in the extensive Schlosspark. From 2014 to 2016, Konstanz is celebrating “600 years of the Konstanz Council”.
